Blazer Measurement Guide
How to measure yourself for a suit jacket:
The chest measurement is taken around the fullest part of the chest and back. Lift your arms up so that the tape measure can be placed high under the armpits. Run the tape measure around behind the back and then across the chest in line with the nipples.
The waist measurement is taken around the stomach at its widest point. Ensure you are relaxed and do not suck in your stomach. The tape measure should come around the fullest part of the stomach, usually at the belly button. It should sit flush against the stomach but not overly tight.
Here we are measuring the full length of the jacket. Place the tape measure at the top of the shoulder where it meets the base of the neck. Run it straight down the body; the finishing point is where you want your jacket to finish. You can put on a well-fitting jacket to determine this measurement.
To measure the sleeve length start by finding the corner point where the shoulder meets the arm. This corner point is used for both the shoulder width and the sleeve length measurements. Place the tape measure at the corner point and measure down the arm. We finish at the top of the hand.
A suit sleeve is usually half an inch shorter than a shirt sleeve so that the shirt sleeve pokes through slightly. You can cross-check this measurement by measuring the sleeve length of a well-fitting suit.
For measuring the shoulder width place the tape measure at one corner point and run the tape measure across the back and shoulders. Measure across to the opposite corner point.
